I think that's why we need to educate them. I don't know why people who work with dogs are looked upon as "lowly". I mean, one guy said to me "to just walk behind dogs and pick vup dog poop all day. What kind of job is that?" I think those of us who see dogs for the magical creatures that they are need to start educating those who don't. At the very least, we deserve some respect for doing a job we are passionate about.

Wow- it can be an actual pro job and not just a hobby....

It can be if a person is willing to put in the work. They must love dogs too, of course. Burnout happens quickly if a person doesn't love the work or the dogs.

David, I see several pro dog walkers in my community. Some of them have MANY dogs at one time and I wonder how they do it!

Great information, attitude and shots. The dog walkers in my neighborhood all seem to love their work. Now I understand what it asks of them.

Holly, I LOVE this so much!! There was a time when I was trying to figure out if dog walking was viable for me, but I thought of all these things to do it properly (like you) which felt like a major deterrent. I totally admire those who can make this their livelihood.

Can I ask your opinion on those who walk many dogs simultaneously? Do you do that?

At one off-leash space near my home, a duo shows up with a van load of dogs (at least 10 -12) for a pack walk. They all get to run and frolic in wide open country space, and these guys seem to have an incredible business going on. My first thought was how much money they must make if they do a couple of van loads a day. Your thoughts??

I hear you! Dog Behaviourist businesses have a similar problem where people just don't know how much it costs to keep seeing clients!

I, myself, walk one dog at a time. I prefer the one on one time with the dog and the bond we end up creating. Pack walkers are a special bunch. It's not something I would do, for various reasons. They don't make a ton of money, but they do make more than me. I have to assume their insurance is much higher than mine, as is their vehicle maintenance.
